Name:Teirnan

Bio
The only son and child between Isolde and Ceinn, Teirnan was raised by his father, presumably alone, on two notions. One: his mother was Isolde, daughter of Donal the Mujhar before Niall ascended the throne; a woman who had the Old Blood in abundance and therefore all the gifts of the Firstborn, and two: that because he had ties to the royal family, and that his blood was less mixed than those of the House of Lions, he was a better candidate to become Mujhar than his cousin Brennan - Niall's first-born son - was.

It was these two things that made relations between Teirnan and his royal kin very strained, mainly because Ceinn was Niall's shu'maii, and because of this he could do nothing to betray Niall, as the bond between shu'maii and the new warrior was as binding as that between warrior and lir or lord and liege man. That did not stop Ceinn from raising his son to believe that one day Teirnan would rule; the only thing stopping him was the will of Clan Council.

Over the years, as Teirnan and Brennan grew, the enmity between cousins also grew, as Brennan came to despise Teirnan, and Sleeta, Brennan's lir, came to hate Teir's own lir, the wild boar named Vaii.

This mutual hostility came to a head when Teirnan announced one day that Maeve, Brennan's half-sister through Niall, had become Teirnan's meijha - his mistress, and that the choice had been freely made. This did not sit well with Brennan, and the two found themselves fighting over the issue, with Brennan making an oath that should Teirnan harm Maeve in any way, Brennan would kill his cousin himself.

But later on, when Teirnan had been invited to Homana-Mujhar to meet his royal kin he came to make a decision that would not only affect his own life, but the lives of many others.

Fearing that the rumours surrounding the prophecy of the Firstborn were true; that the Cheysuli stood to loose the lir when the prophecised child was born, Teirnan swore that he would no longer serve the prophecy at all. And moreso, he would inform Clan Council of his decisions, thus making him kin-wrecked and proscribed by the clans, who no longer acknowledged his existance.

And not being satisfied with being the lone member of the new a'saii, Teirnan went from clan to clan, recruiting members and causing much sorrow and grief as men, women, children and even lir joined Teirnan in his efforts to destroy the prophecy - efforts that would even include accepting aide from the Cheysuli's traditional enemy, the Ihlini; namely, Rhiannon - daughter of Ian and Lillith, and thus the first link in the Ihlini's attempts to create a Firstborn of their own.

Ultimately though, Teirnan's efforts were in vain. Many years later, when Niall's grandson began a journey across several kingdoms in search of a potential wife and queen, it was revealled that Teirnan's lir had been killed. But Teirnan, who for so long had turned his back on all of his race's traditions, had decided not to fulfill the final rite of a warrior who has lost his lir, and chose to live with the madness that came when a warrior's lir is taken from him.

Fate, however, could not be denied, and one night after Aidan had come home he journeyed to Homana-Mujhar to enter the castle and descend down into the obliette, where the Womb of the Earth was, after Aidan had taken Shona down into it to see it and all the marble lir within it. There in his madness he decreed that he was the rightful heir, and that the Womb would make him Mujhar; all he had to do was descend into the pit and he would come back out.

Unfortunately for Teirnan, he was quite wrong, and that would prove to be the last anyone would ever hear from or about Teirnan again...

[Disclaimer: Teirnan is a character from the "Chronicles of the Cheysuli" series of novels © to Jennifer Roberson.

There is nothing that I own; I merely found him interesting enough to take him out drinking now and then.

This journal is maintained for RPG purposes; I own nothing but worship it all.

Leijhana tu'sai Jennifer.]
